Biography

Tobin J. Wagstaff Sr. is a musician, music educator, business consultant, and entrepreneur. He founded Studio Percussion Music and Dance Center, a 501c3 charitable non-profit music school, in 2002 in Gainesville, FL, where it has helped thousands of people pursue arts education and activities, as well as brought in internationally acclaimed percussion clinicians, including Rich Redmond (The Jason Aldean Band), Stanton Moore (Galactic), Casey Grillo (Queensryche), and Shawn Drover (Megadeth). Tobin Wagstaff, and Studio Percussion Music and Dance Center, were the subject of the TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Season 7, Episode 17 in 2010 featuring Ty Pennington and the band KISS. Tobin is also the founder of StudyPercussion.com which is an Online Distance Learning program in percussion accessible internationally in collaboration with expert percussionists in all genres and levels. Besides these activities and performing in various music ensembles, Tobin is involved in business consulting for area businesses and other non-profit organizations. He holds a Bachelors with a major in Music and a minor in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences (University of Florida, 2003) and a Master of Music Education (University of Florida, 2018). Tobin is active in area private and public schools at all grade levels and area afterschool programs and other non-profit organizations. He resides in Gainesville, FL, with his four children and four dogs, and enjoys watersports and traveling. He is also involved in Men’s Groups and mentoring programs. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition 2010

“EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION” LENDS A HELPING HAND TO A GAINESVILLE FAMILY WHOSE NON-PROFIT MUSIC SCHOOL UTILIZES THE ARTS TO STRENGTHEN AND INSPIRE THE COMMUNITY (Gainesville, FL December 7, 2009) -- “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” travels to Gainesville, Florida to meet Tobin Wagstaff, who started his own non-profit music school to provide services in the arts that would provide significant experiences for everyone, including those with financial limitations or disabilities. Pouring all of his time and resources into this school has left very little for the vast and necessary repairs needed to fix his rotting home. In just seven days, team leader Ty Pennington, the design team, and the Gainesville community will rebuild the home that is literally crumbling around them and give back to this family who gives so much to their community. Growing up, Tobin Wagstaff always noticed the huge impact the arts had on the lives of his friends and family. In college, Tobin married and had his 4 beautiful children: Tobin James Jr., 7, Rudy, 6, Dallas, 5, and Larissa Jolene, 4. In 2002, the he started Studio Percussion, Inc., a non-profit music school and arts center specializing originally in the use of drums and percussion to encourage and inspire students towards community involvement and leadership development. Tobin this organization out of a space retail space. The studio currently serves about 200 people, half of which receive financial aid or a full scholarship. The non-profit organization can only afford to pay Tobin, 29, a meager salary. His utter devotion to family, the school, and the community leaves little time and resources to tend to the home, which is in dire need of repair. The floors and rooftops are completely rotting away and the electrical system throughout the house is faulty. Now, it¹s up to the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team and hundreds of local volunteers to build a safe, new home that will allow this family to continue to support the arts in the lives of their family and their entire community. The Wagstaff family will go on a surprise rock and roll vacation while“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team leader Ty Pennington, designers Didiayer Snyder, Paul DiMeo, and Eduardo Xol, local builder Ark Remodeling & Construction, Inc., and community volunteers rebuild their home.
